Seth Pearsoll
I was born in Nebraska, now live in Philadelphia and experienced many places in between. I am currently a designer and director at the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society.
I majored in English because I believe that reading and writing are essential
I briefly taught Portuguese while dabbling in Hispanic Linguistics at the University of Iowa after a chance encounter with a professor in Sao Paulo, Brazil. I found out about Landscape Architecture while flipping through magazines at a bed and breakfast in Illinois and was convinced that it was this field that would allow me to work on my lifelong questions about places, memories, and the general effect of our surroundings on our lives.
I received my Master’s Degree from the rigorous Conway Design School, on the edge of the Berkshires. I ended up in Philadelphia by chance in August of 2008 where the realities of a shifting economy (world, really) recalibrated my expectations of what professional life would be like.
I am currently in charge of creating and modernizing revenue streams at PHS. This includes creating and introducing new merchandise collections, building and curating Pop Ups, producing and executing concepts for events, creating partnerships with other great organizations and brands, and generally guiding all of the critical details that make big ideas into actual accomplishments.
As Director of Merchandise, I am challenged with creating relevant new product offerings that are unique, on-trend and maintain a connection with the historical legacy of PHS. With the continued success of the Pop Up Gardens, it is apparent that there is a growing demographic that interested in horticulture and urban greening in new ways. A hard cider offering strikes the perfect balance between contemporary and timeless. I lead a small team in developing, branding and bringing the hard cider to fruition.
The PHS Hard Cider was introduced at the 2015 Philadelphia Flower Show with great success, beating initial order projections by 1400%. It will be featured in the PHS Summer Pop Ups and our team is working to make it available wherever craft beers are sold.
